Officials associated with the Health Department blamed the drug shortage: GMOA

The hospital health system, Ministry of Health, Central Medical Institute, State Medical Corporation (SPC), State Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC), National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) should be held responsible for the shortage of drugs in the country. According to the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA).

GMOA media spokesperson Samil Wijesinghe said that there is no coordination between the above institutions and their lack of responsiveness is the main reason for the shortage of medicines in the country.

As the country faces a massive dollar crunch due to problems in importing drugs, the capacity of domestic drug production needs to be increased.

He also pointed out that the reason for the lack of medicine in the country is the lack of responsiveness of the institutions related to drug distribution.

Therefore, the association said that a proper mechanism should be set up to provide medicines to all concerned parties.
